Kiya: Settling In

Starting something new is always bound to be slightly daunting and, as you can imagine, driving to school on my first day consisted of butterflies in my tummy and murmuring encouragement to myself. It is safe to say that the nervousness was unnecessary! I have so much support from my colleagues at my school, the LTSA mentors, subject specialists, and beyond. There is no aspect of training that I have felt I have no one to ask if I’m struggling.

I know that with each week there will be informative sessions that help me to build up my skills and opportunity to discuss my experiences with other trainees. This has been the aspect of the SCITT that I appreciate the most, you have a fantastic opportunity to mingle with a range of fascinating perspectives to help you build on your own experience. Within sessions with the secondary teaching cohort there is an atmosphere of collaboration that leaves me full of ideas, everyone is more than happy to help you out if you’re stumped for a starter!

Starting a SCITT you find yourself in a similar position to your year sevens; simultaneously ‘settling in’ though, somehow, you have to appear confident and in control. This sounds daunting, but if anything with all the support around I’ve found this easy. How can you worry about settling in if you’re too busy getting excited for your next lesson idea?!
