Alice: Embrace school life

Settling in to your school at first can seem to be a daunting transition considering you’re in a brand new environment surrounded by new faces. Prior to starting the training year I made the effort to go in before the summer holidays to familiarise myself with the school routines and to start to become a familiar face within the school. When September came around it was an exciting time to get to know the children and the staff. Of course it took a while to settle in and establish these relationships as staff and children had been there long before I had.  However one of the great things about my setting is that everyone is so friendly and helpful so it made it a lot easier to settle down.                                                      

One of the main things I made sure of when settling into my school was to embrace everything as school life can be hectic. Everyone pulls together as a team to get things done and this made it easy to settle down as we had a team unit within our year. One of the benefits of my school is that not all year group classrooms are together and there is a big open space in-between so this gave me the opportunity to speak to different year group members, not just my own. Overall the settling in process is what you make of it, if you put the effort and time in to make the relationships then you will find the transition a breeze.
